Dr. Av. Zaka is a founding partner of Zaka, Kosta & Memishaj Law Firm. Prior to establishing the law firm, Dr. Av. Zaka served on the Albanian Supreme Court (1994 – 2001) and on the Constitutional Court of Albania (2001 – 2002). Dr. Av. Zaka’s previous positions include: Vice President of the Legal Reform Commission for the Ministry of Justice, member of the working group established by Parliament to review and draft Albania’s post-communist laws and codes, and she served as the Senior Legal Expert for the European Union Commission to ensure Albanian legalisation meets E.U. standards. Dr. Av. Zaka was a lecturer at the School of Magistrates and trainer of judges.
Dr. Av. Zaka’s areas of expertise includes: commercial law, litigation and arbitration, public procurement, concessions, privatization, mining, telecommunication, energy, family law, competition, and consumer’s rights.
She is the author of numerous legal articles and studies on issues such as: family law, oil and gas regulations, etc. Dr. Av. Zaka holds a Doctorate of Law from the University of Tirana, Albania, is a member of the Albanian Bar Association, and is a certified arbitrator of the Albanian Commercial Mediation and Arbitration Centre (MEDART).
Dr. Av. Zaka speaks English, French, and Albanian. She splits her time between Washington D.C. and Tirana.
